Getting Started with Therapy

Beginning therapy can be an intimidating experience, so let's take a little bit of the mystery out of it.

Before the First Session

Prior to the first session, there's a bit of paperwork. Here's how it works:

  1. We connect via email or phone to determine if my therapeutic approach and your therapeutic goals align (i.e., it feels like a good fit for you).

  2. If you are using an accepted insurance, I ask that you check with your insurance for your copay or deductible.

  3. I'll send you a link to set up your Client Portal, where you will fill out the necessary intake paperwork.

  4. Once all the necessary paperwork is completed, we'll schedule your first appointment. You will receive a link for your session from Simple Practice, where you can access your virtual waiting room. If you want to use your phone for sessions, download “Telehealth By Simple Practice”. And you'll be ready to go!

The First Session & Onward

The first session is considered the "clinical intake" (i.e., the getting to know you). We'll review any questions you have regarding policies and I'll reiterate a couple biggies. I'll ask a bunch of questions and we'll explore your goals for therapy, as well as current concerns.

After the first session, while the getting to know you continues, we begin the therapy journey based on what we identified as your goals.
